M. Guilhermina DaPonte, 79, of Fall River, wife of Elias DaPonte, died Saturday, February 19, 2011 at Charlton Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Born in Sao Vicente, St Michael, Azores, daughter of the late Manuel B. & Guilhermina I. (Botelho) do Rego, she emigrated to Fall River in 1968. Employed in the local textile industry for many years until her retirement in the early 1990s, she was a member of the ILGWU (now UNITE). She enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Besides her husband, she leaves: 2 daughters, Connie Amaral (husband-Rev. John) of Swansea and Natalie Arruda (husband-Eddy) of Fall River; a sister, Lydia DaSilva (husband-David) of Fall River; 3 grandchildren, Regina Jean (Husband-Michael), Kristal Amaral & Ryan Arruda; 2 great grandchildren, Noah & Landon Jean; several nieces and nephews. She was also sister of the late Salivina Amaral & Manuel Rego. Her funeral Mass was celebrated in Espirito Santo Church. Maria was laid to rest at Notre Dame Cemetery.
